The Kathmandu to Pokhara route is Nepal's most popular road trip. Can you do it in an EV? Yes, but you need to plan.
The Route
Distance: ~200 km via Prithvi Highway
Driving Time: 5-7 hours (depending on traffic)
Elevation: Mix of highway and mountain roads
The highway is mostly good condition with some sections under construction. You'll pass through Muglin, the main rest stop where the highway from Chitwan joins.

Tips for the Trip
1. Start with a Full Battery Charge to 100% the night before. This isn't always ideal for battery health, but it gives you maximum buffer for a long trip.
2. Don't Push It Keep 20% battery as emergency reserve. You never know when traffic or detours will add distance.
3. Check Station Status Call ahead or check apps to confirm charging stations are operational. Sometimes stations are temporarily down.
4. Drive Efficiently
- Use Eco mode
- Avoid hard acceleration
- Keep speed reasonable (60-80 km/h is optimal for range)
5. Turn Off AC When Possible AC uses significant battery. If the weather is nice, open windows instead during some stretches.
What About Return Trip?
Same stations work in reverse. Many EV owners charge overnight in Pokhara (hotels often allow charging) and start the return fully charged.
